Unlocking Power: VF V8 6.0L Camshaft Upgrade

At Revhigh, we thrive on transforming everyday performance into extraordinary power. When Riley brought in his VF V8 6.0L, he was already enjoying a respectable 275kW at the wheels thanks to a full catback exhaust, Revhigh-coated headers, and a VCM over-the-radiator (OTR) intake. But, like any true enthusiast, he wanted more. After discussing his goals, we knew the perfect solution: our #lumpy 225/236@114 camshaft upgrade.

The Initial Setup

Riley's VF V8 already had a strong foundation with:

  • Full catback exhaust system

  • Revhigh-coated headers

  • VCM OTR intake


While these modifications provided solid gains, the power plateaued at 275kW at the wheels. To push the limits and deliver even more grunt, we decided to dive deeper with a comprehensive camshaft and supporting component upgrade.

The Camshaft Upgrade Package

Our 225/236@114 camshaft is a perfect balance of performance and drivability. It delivers a strong mid-range punch without the annoying bucking at low RPM. Here’s a breakdown of what we installed to extract every bit of potential from Riley's L77 6.0L engine:

  • Dual 660” valve springs for improved valve control

  • Texas Speed & Performance (TSP) camshaft for precise tuning

  • Durabond cam bearings for durability

  • Rocker trunnion upgrade for enhanced rocker stability

  • Varex mufflers to provide adjustable sound levels

  • High-pressure oil pump for optimal lubrication

  • Chrome moly 7.4” pushrods for superior strength

  • GM LS7 lifters and lifter buckets for reliable valve actuation

  • Powerbond 25% underdrive pulley for reduced parasitic loss

  • Blackwell cylinder heads for improved airflow

  • Xtreme heavy-duty clutch to handle increased torque

  • DOD (Displacement on Demand) delete plate to remove AFM limitations

  • New sensors, belts, plugs, leads, and all required gaskets (including German head gaskets) for a comprehensive refresh


The Results

With all upgrades completed and fine-tuned on the dyno, the results were nothing short of impressive:

363kW (485 HP) at the wheels at 6600 RPM

Considering the only other major modifications were the 1-5/8 headers and a medium cam, these numbers showcase just how effective our tuning and parts package can be. The upgraded camshaft not only improved peak power but also delivered crisp throttle response and a healthy "lump" that every V8 enthusiast loves.
